Job summary

Cover People are recruiting a Pastoral Support Assistant for a specialist secondary SEMH school in Tameside. You’ll work with small groups of pupils, supporting their behaviour, wellbeing and engagement while helping them access a practical, vocational curriculum.

There is genuine temp-to-perm potential for the right person, with competitive daily rates and ongoing support from a dedicated SEND consultant. All pay rates include 12.07% statutory holiday pay where applicable.

Qualifications

• Experience with SEMH or challenging behaviour in young people.
• Background in education, youth work, mentoring or care.
• Calm, patient and confident in difficult situations.
• Strong relationship-building skills with pupils and staff.
• Resilient, consistent and positive in approach.
• Genuine passion for helping young people succeed.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with secondary-aged pupils.
• Provide pastoral, emotional and behavioural support.
• Support small groups and individual pupils.
• Deliver interventions, activities and enrichment.
• Encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Assist pupils to access practical and vocational learning.
• Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff.

Are you a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Pastoral Support Worker or Youth Worker who knows how to connect with young people who find mainstream education challenging?

Cover People are recruiting a Pastoral Support Assistant for a specialist secondary SEMH school in Tameside.

You'll work with small groups of pupils, supporting their behaviour, wellbeing and engagement while helping them access a practical, vocational curriculum.

The school has a strong focus on intervention, rewards and enrichment, giving pupils opportunities to build confidence, develop life skills and experience success.

There is also genuine temp-to-perm potential for the right person.

What You'll Do

• Build strong, positive relationships with secondary-aged pupils.
• Provide pastoral, emotional and behavioural support.
• Support small groups and individual pupils.
• Help deliver interventions, activities and enrichment.
