Protocol Education Ltd in Middlesbrough is seeking an experienced Pastoral Manager to support students in a secondary school from September 2026. The role focuses on promoting positive behaviour, attendance and wellbeing across the school.

This is a full-time supply post with potential to become permanent for the right candidate; you will work closely with staff, families and external agencies to deliver high-quality pastoral support and be a calm, supportive presence for students.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a pastoral role within a school or similar educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of behaviour, attendance and student wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Calm, consistent and nurturing approach.

Responsibilities

  • Providing high-quality pastoral support to students across the school.
  • Monitoring and improving student attendance, punctuality and engagement.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and contributing to effective behaviour management.
  • Working closely with students, parents and carers to address concerns.
  • Identifying students who may require additional support and implementing appropriate interventions.
  • Working collaboratively with Heads of Year, SLT, SENCO and external agencies where appropriate.
  • Supporting students with their emotional wellbeing and personal development.
  • Maintaining accurate records and monitoring student progress.
  • Helping to create a positive, inclusive and supportive school environment.

Pastoral Manager – Secondary School

Location: Middlesbrough

Contract: Full-Time, Supply with Potential to Become Permanent

Protocol Education are currently recruiting for an experienced and committed Pastoral Manager to join a welcoming secondary school in Middlesbrough from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate pastoral professional who is dedicated to supporting young people to thrive both academically and personally. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, attendance, engagement and wellbeing across the school.

The Role

As Pastoral Manager, you will work closely with students, families, teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to provide effective support and intervention. You will build positive relationships with students, identify barriers to learning and help young people overcome challenges that may impact their education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing high-quality pastoral support to students across the school

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working in a pastoral role within a school or similar educational setting
  • Strong knowledge of behaviour, attendance and student wellbeing
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, consistent and nurturing approach
  • The ability to manage challenging situations effectively
  • High expectations of young people and a genuine commitment to their success
  • The confidence to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents and external professionals

This is a full-time position starting in September 2026, initially offered on a supply basis with the potential for the role to become permanent for the right candidate.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
