Job summary

Matthew Arnold School is seeking a term-time chef to join the in-house catering team. The role is part-time (25–30 hours per week) across 39 weeks plus 12 days, focusing on planning and cooking nutritious meals to food safety standards and supporting the Catering Manager.

You will write termly menus, organise catering for school events, manage stock and supplier orders, keep HACCP records, maintain food hygiene, and help deliver costs within budget while providing excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering, food preparation, stock control and ordering supplies.
• Ability to lead by example and motivate colleagues.
• Knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety requirements and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Plan menus with the Catering Manager and prepare, cook and serve nutritious meals to catering legislation and food safety standards.
• Organise and deliver food for the main dining areas.
• Create termly menus and supporting documentation to develop the catering offer.
• Deputise for the Catering Manager, including ordering, stock control and supplier management.
• Keep accurate HACCP records.
• Maintain food hygiene, health and safety standards, including preparing for inspections and visits.
• Organise catering for school events.
• Support the day-to-day running of the catering service, on time and to a high standard.
• Keep financial controls, cost management and waste reduction measures within budget.
