Job summary

Gillingstool Primary School in Bristol is seeking a part-time Caretaker to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment for pupils and staff. This 20-hour weekly role runs year-round with duties including site security, routine inspections, and basic repairs.

You will manage opening/closing, alarms, and liaise with contractors, ensuring health and safety compliance, readiness of rooms for events, and orderly grounds.

Qualifications

• Experience of maintenance, caretaking or facilities management.
• Good practical DIY and repair skills.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
• Good communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as keyholder and manage opening, closing, alarms and site security.
• Carry out routine inspections and identify maintenance requirements.
• Undertake general repairs including basic carpentry, plumbing and decorating.
• Monitor heating, lighting, water and energy systems and report faults.
• Set up rooms for assemblies and school events.
• Receive deliveries and manage storage of supplies.
• Maintain records of maintenance, compliance checks and premises issues.
