Confidential in Northwich is seeking a Part-Time Payroll Assistant to join a busy payroll team. The role supports processing payrolls for a diverse client portfolio, covering weekly to monthly cycles for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

It offers development opportunities, a supportive team and flexible hours (15 or 22.5 hours across 2 or 3 days). You will assist with payroll administration, ensure deadlines, handle Auto Enrolment and BACS tasks, and maintain accurate records

Qualifications

  • Experience performing payroll tasks and processing payrolls for diverse client portfolios.
  • Ability to handle Auto Enrolment and statutory payments accurately.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and MS Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and processing of payrolls for a portfolio of clients.

Part-Time Payroll Assistant

Location: Northwich
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Job Type: Permanent, Part-Time
Hours: 15 or 22.5 hours per week, over 2 or 3 days

We are currently recruiting for a Part-Time Payroll Assistant to join an established and growing professional services business in Northwich.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who already has some payroll experience and is looking to broaden their knowledge, take on more responsibility and develop their career within payroll. You'll join a supportive and experienced payroll team, with plenty of opportunity to learn and develop your skills across a varied client base.

The Role

Working as part of the payroll team, you will assist with the accurate and timely processing of payrolls for a diverse portfolio of clients. This will include weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies across a range of sectors.

You will work closely with experienced payroll professionals, giving you the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge, gain exposure to different payroll requirements and build your confidence in dealing with clients and payroll queries.

Key Responsibilities
  • - Assist with the preparation and processing of payrolls for a portfolio of clients.
  • - Process payroll information accurately and ensure deadlines are met.
  • - Support with payroll administration, including Auto Enrolment and BACS processing.
  • - Respond to routine payroll queries from clients, colleagues, HMRC and other third parties.
  • - Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records.
  • - Assist with resolving payroll issues and escalated more complex queries when required.
  • - Keep up to date with payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
  • - Build strong and professional relationships with clients.
  • - Work collaboratively with the wider payroll team.
  • - Contribute to improving payroll processes and delivering a high level of client service.
About You

We're looking for someone with some previous payroll experience who is keen to develop and expand their skill set.

You will ideally have:
  • - Previous experience working in a payroll role.
  • - A good understanding of basic payroll processes and statutory requirements.
  • - Some knowledge of Auto Enrolment and statutory payments.
  • - Experience using payroll software; BrightPay experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • - Good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • - Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • - Good communication skills and a professional, client-focused approach.
  • - The ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
  • - A positive attitude and genuine interest in developing a career in payroll.
  • - Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.

Experience within a payroll bureau or accountancy practice would be advantageous, but candidates from an in-house payroll background will also be considered.
