Job summary

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking up to three Medical Examiners to contribute one session per week. The role involves verifying MCCDs and ensuring proper referrals to the coroner, following national protocols.

Applicants should be GMC-registered with at least five years post-registration, and may include consultants, GP principals, or specialty/specialist doctors with suitable skills. Salary is pro rata to experience.

Qualifications

• A practising medical practitioner who has been on the General Medical Council register for a minimum of five years post registration.
• Consultant grade doctors from a range of disciplines will be considered.
• Specialty Doctors and Specialist doctors with appropriate skills will also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Scrutinise the certified causes of death offered by attending doctors in a way that is proportionate, consistent and compliant with the proposed national protocol.
• Discuss and explain the cause of death with next of kin/informants in a transparent, tactful and sympathetic manner.
• Ensure all users of the ME system are treated with respect and are not discriminated against.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all deaths scrutinised and undertake analysis for the National Medical Examiner’s office.
• Participate in clinical governance activities related to death certification including audits and mortality review processes.
• Support the training of junior doctors in death certification best practice.
• Work with medical examiner officers (MEOs) and delegate duties as appropriate.
