Job summary

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Lead Medical Examiner to oversee the ME service at ESTH, Sutton PCN and Epsom PCN, with dual accountability to the Site Chief Medical Officer and the Regional Medical Examiner for London.

The postholder will lead a team of Medical Examiners and Medical Examiner Officers, scrutinise all inpatient deaths, and ensure proper completion of death certifications in line with national guidelines, while engaging with bereaved

Qualifications

• The Lead ME will provide clinical leadership and lead a team of Medical Examiners and Medical Examiner Officers.
• Candidate will ensure robust scrutiny of deaths and adherence to national guidelines.
• Role requires continuing professional development and independent accountability.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Medical Examiner Service across ESTH and partner sites.
• Scrutinise inpatient deaths and oversee death certification processes.
• Collaborate with clinicians, coroners, registries and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure equality and non-discrimination in ME activities and records.
• Provide governance, audits and reporting to National Medical Examiner’s Office.
