Job summary

University of Portsmouth Students’ Union is seeking a Finance Supervisor on a fixed-term 21-hour week until January 2028. The role involves supporting the Union’s finance function, maintaining controls, and providing financial advice across departments.

Qualifications

• Requires AAT qualification or QBE experience with 1–2 years of ledger work up to trial balance.
• Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and VAT basics.
• Proficiency with Xero and Excel; strong data accuracy and controls.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day ledgers and general ledger coding with proper VAT treatment.
• Reconcile credit card ledgers and match invoices to POs.
• Record revenue from online and POS data; maintain accurate ledger entries.
• Perform monthly petty cash reconciliations and processing of expense claims.
• Provide financial administration support to other departments and respond to queries.
• Assist with finance inductions and onboarding of new staff; adapt to evolving systems.
