Job summary

Responsibilities

• Manage bookkeeping for a portfolio of SME clients.
• Process and reconcile bank, credit card, supplier and customer accounts.
• Process invoices and expenses.
• Prepare VAT returns and supporting paperwork.
• Identify and correct discrepancies within bookkeeping records.
• Liaise with clients regarding missing information and queries.
• Maintain accurate and up to date client records.
• Support the wider accounts team with bookkeeping and VAT queries.
• Work to internal and statutory deadlines.

Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Salary: GBP28,000 to GBP32,000 FTE, depending on experience
Hours: Part time, flexible working available

We are looking for an experienced Part Time Bookkeeper to join an established accountancy team in Stevenage.

This role would suit someone looking for flexible hours, potentially around school hours, who enjoys bookkeeping, VAT and working directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage bookkeeping for a portfolio of SME clients
• Process and reconcile bank, credit card, supplier and customer accounts
• Process invoices and expenses
• Prepare VAT returns and supporting paperwork
• Identify and correct discrepancies within bookkeeping records
• Liaise with clients regarding missing information and queries
• Maintain accurate and up to date client records
• Support the wider accounts team with bookkeeping and VAT queries

About You

• Previous bookkeeping experience
• Strong understanding of double entry bookkeeping
• Experience preparing VAT returns
• Experience with Xero or similar cloud accounting software
• Dext or Apron experience would be advantageous
• Accountancy practice experience is desirable
• AAT qualified, studying towards AAT or qualified by experience
• Strong attention to detail and organisation
• Confident communicating with clients
• Able to work independently and manage deadlines
