Job description

We're looking for an Accountant to join us at INSHUR on a 6-month fixed term contract, this could extend to a longer term role! We're based in sunny Brighton ️ (sea , chips , and seagulls ️ included), and our company embraces a hybrid working model, allowing you to thrive in both collaborative office settings and the comfort of your own home . You'll have the opportunity to work remotely while also connecting with your colleagues at our Brighton office at least 2 days a week, fostering a dynamic and supportive environment.

You'll be working on re-inventing insurance in exciting markets across multiple territories including the UK , US , and the Netherlands , with plans to expand into new European countries.

Supported by (and reporting to) the Financial Controller, you'll be joining a friendly team of 12 who believe in creating a supportive culture of collaboration and continuous learning.

We value high performance and care deeply about making INSHUR a place where everyone is building something special, that we can all be proud of, while enjoying the ride.

What you'll do
As an Accountant at INSHUR, you'll play a key role in supporting the financial operations of our European entities. You'll be hands-on across core accounting processes and collaborate with teams across the business to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.

You'll be working on:

  • Month-end revenue reconciliation and recognition to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Reconciling broker statements and supporting monthly P&L and balance sheet reviews
  • Ensuring timely and accurate payroll posting
  • Assisting with tax preparation and filings, including UK VAT returns and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT)
  • Supporting both month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Assisting with audits across UK and European entities
  • Providing day-to-day support to Finance Assistants
  • Working on ad hoc finance projects that drive process improvement and efficiency
  • Supporting the migration of our Netherlands business to a new underwriting system for improved financial reporting

While we prioritise aptitude and passion over a strict checklist of requirements, we've outlined a core set of skills we believe will lead to success in this role. To make things clear, we've categorised them into "essentials to thrive in the role" and "additional skills that could set you apart"

We'd love to hear from you if you have

...these essentials to thrive in the role;

  • ACCA, CIMA, or ICAEW part or fully qualified: A strong foundation in accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Month-end experience with a UK insurer, including IPT: Brings specialist knowledge of insurance finance and tax.
  • Proficient in Excel (Lookups, Pivot Tables, etc.): Confident handling complex data and building insightful reports.
  • Works well autonomously: Comfortable taking ownership and delivering independently.
  • Familiar with intercompany adjustments and multi-currency environments: Supports global financial accuracy and reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of UK VAT: Ensures compliance and accuracy in financial processes.

... these additional skills that could set you apart

  • Familiar with intercompany adjustments and multi-currencies

You'll love it here if you:

Enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams and supporting others to hit shared goals.
Feel energised by a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift.
Can work things out independently.
Thrive in ambiguity and bring clarity through problem-solving.
Take ownership of your work and are proud to deliver accurate, high-quality outputs.
Are curious about the bigger picture behind the numbers and always open to learning.
Focus on finding practical solutions, not just highlighting problems.
Adapt quickly and maintain a positive mindset when challenges arise.

You may not enjoy working here if:
You prefer a steady, highly structured environment.
You need fully defined processes and clear instructions to feel comfortable.
You struggle with switching focus or juggling competing priorities.

What to expect from the process:

Screen & Intro: 30-minute video call with the Talent Team to discuss the role and your experience.

First Interview: 60-minute video call with the UK Financial Controller and People Partner to delve into the role, including technical and teram fit questions.

We encourage you to ask questions about the role and the company throughout the hiring process. We believe that this is as much an opportunity for you to interview us as it is for us to interview you.

What we offer

Our budget for this role is £35,000 - 50,000pa (pro rata'd) and we will take into account any previous experience and location of work when agreeing on the final offer.

We've also built a benefits package that invests in our people's long-term personal and professional growth and wellbeing. Here's a sample of what this includes:

30 days of holiday annually, plus bank holidays

Private healthcare for you and your family, including pre-existing conditions

Life insurance at 3x your salary

Workplace pension scheme to help you save for retirement

Flexible working hours to suit your lifestyle

£500 annual personal training allowance plus regular learning opportunities on a variety of topics

£40 monthly wellbeing to keep you healthy

24/7 Employee Assistance Program, covering you and immediate family members—offering crisis support, counselling, legal advice, menopause CBT, and more

It goes without saying that we provide everyone with a laptop, monitor, top-of-the-range kit, and any software you need.
