Job summary

Modulr Finance in the UK seeks a Paralegal to support the legal team across commercial, compliance and litigation matters. You will conduct research on payment industry compliance, help draft and negotiate merchant, processing and vendor contracts, and drive privacy program tasks and DPIAs.

You will also assist with ongoing litigation, monitor budgets, and lead process improvements while collaborating with internal and external counsel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in law or related field; Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1 year as a paralegal, privacy or regulatory compliance professional.
• Proficiency in data privacy laws such as GDPR.
• Excellent organisational, research and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analysis on payment industry compliance, data privacy and consumer protection laws.
• Assist in drafting and negotiating contracts including merchant, processing, and vendor agreements.
• Execute privacy compliance processes, manage DSRs, and review DPIAs.
• Support commercial litigation with in-house and external counsel, tracking budgets and progress.
• Identify and drive process improvements and lead on change projects.
• Develop AI-assisted workflows for recurring tasks.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders across teams.

What You’ll Do

• Conduct legal research and analysis related to payment industry compliance, data privacy, and consumer protection laws - all crucial aspects of Modulr's operations.
• Assist in, reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of contracts, including those directly linked to our core services like merchant agreements, processing agreements, and vendor contracts.
• Execute BAU privacy compliance processes, including end-to-end management of DSRs, reviewing and advising on DPIAs and maintaining and updating associated documentation.
• Manage commercial litigation with support from in-house and external counsel, securing and reporting on progress against defined budgets and objectives
• Identify and drive process improvements, taking the lead on projects through to implementation.
• Use, enhance and develop AI supported workflows for recurring tasks.
• Work in a highly dynamic environment, focusing on execution and ensuring plans come to fruition.
• Consistently build strong relationships with stakeholders

Who You Are

What you’ll need

• Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in legal studies, Law, or a related field - Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience
• minimum of 1 year of experience as a paralegal, privacy or regulatory compliance professional, preferably in a technology or financial services setting.
• Proficiency in data privacy laws, such as GDPR
• Excellent organisational, research and analytical skills

Nice to haves

• Experience in the payments industry, similar to Modulr's core operations
• Familiarity with payment processing systems and platforms
• Knowledge of international payment regulations, considering Modulr's wide operational landscape
• Familiarity with safe use of AI in sensitive processes
