Job summary

Deverellsmith is seeking an experienced Painter/Decorator for a short-term project in Sheffield to prepare student accommodation ahead of the new academic year.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, tidy work site with minimal disruption in occupied buildings.
• Report any additional maintenance issues spotted on site.
• Follow health and safety requirements at all times.

Salary: GBP15 - GBP17 per hour

Painter/Decorator – Student Accommodation

Location: Sheffield

Hours: 40 hours per week

Duration: Immediate start through end of August/beginning of September 2026, or until the required rooms are completed (whichever comes first)

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a student accommodation provider in Sheffield, for an experienced Painter/Decorator to join their maintenance team on a short-term basis. This is a fast-paced turnaround project ahead of the new academic year, with a clear scope of works and a defined finish date.

You’ll be working across a number of student rooms and communal areas, helping to get the accommodation ready for incoming residents. This is a great opportunity for a reliable tradesperson looking for immediate, full‑time work over the coming weeks.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing walls, ceilings, woodwork, and fixtures for painting (filling, sanding, masking)
• Applying paint and finishes to a high standard across student rooms and shared spaces
• Working efficiently to meet a tight turnaround schedule ahead of student move‑in dates
• Ensuring minimal disruption and mess, working cleanly and tidily throughout occupied buildings
• Reporting any additional maintenance issues spotted while on site
• Adhering to health and safety requirements at all times

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as a painter/decorator, ideally within a commercial, residential, or accommodation setting
• Ability to work at pace without compromising on quality
• Own tools and PPE (materials/paint supplied by the client)
• Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to full‑time hours for the duration of the project
• Comfortable working independently or as part of a small team
• Right to work in the UK
• Full‑time, 40 hours/week
• Short‑term contract, ending once the specified rooms are complete or by early September 2026
• Based on‑site in Sheffield
