Job summary

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a skilled Painter and Decorator to prepare empty Council properties to a high standard across Kettering and Corby, using painting, decorating and basic plastering skills to ready homes for new tenants.

You will work safely at height, follow COSHH regulations and contribute to a fast, customer-focused service, including driving between sites to move materials and support the wider team.

Qualifications

  • City and Guilds NVQ 2 or equivalent.
  • 3 years’ experience in painting and decorating.
  • COSHH awareness and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out painting and decorating works within empty Council properties to a high standard.
  • Completing internal and external decorating work across residential properties.
  • Preparing surfaces, including filling, minor repairs and wallpaper removal.
  • Working safely at height using ladders, scaffolding and access equipment.
  • Following COSHH regulations and safe working practices.
  • Delivering a fast, efficient and customer-focused service while maintaining high standards.
  • Driving Council vehicles to transport materials and equipment between sites.
  • Undertaking minor maintenance and repair tasks associated with decorating work.
  • Supporting the wider team with other duties of a similar nature as required.

About The Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Painter and Decorator to help prepare empty Council properties to a high standard across the Kettering and Corby areas. Using your painting, decorating and basic plastering skills, you will play a key role in ensuring homes are ready for new tenants, delivering quality work that helps make a positive difference to our communities.

What will you be doing?

As a Painter and Decorator, you’ll play an important role in preparing Council homes for new tenants, ensuring properties are safe, well-presented and ready to become homes once again.

  • Carrying out painting and decorating works within empty Council properties to a high standard.
  • Completing both internal and external decorating work across a range of residential properties.
  • Preparing surfaces, including filling, making minor repairs and removing wallpaper where required.
  • Working safely at height using ladders, scaffolding and access equipment such as cherry pickers.
  • Following health and safety procedures, including COSHH regulations and safe working practices.
  • Delivering a fast, efficient and customer-focused service while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Driving Council vehicles to transport materials and equipment between sites.
  • Identifying potential hazards, including asbestos-containing materials and other harmful substances, and reporting them appropriately.
  • Undertaking minor maintenance and repair tasks associated with decorating work.
  • Supporting the wider team with other duties of a similar nature as required.
About You
  • Safety Awareness – including manual handling and working at heights.
  • City and Guilds NVQ 2 or equivalent
  • At least 3 years’ experience.
  • Knowledge of using PDA or similar for planning of work and communication with team.
  • Conversant with COSHH regulations on decorating materials
  • A dedication to being your best at all times – being professional, proactive and open to new ways of working.
  • An enthusiasm for team working – being collaborative, innovative and showing support and respect for colleagues
  • Ability to demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behaviour, physical, social and welfare needs.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
