Job summary

South Tyneside Council is seeking an experienced Painter & Decorator to support the redecoration of void council properties and carry out anti-mould treatments.

You will prepare walls, ceilings and woodwork and bring homes up to lettable standard between tenancies. Based in South Tyneside, this is a temporary contract within Housing / Property Maintenance. The ideal candidate works independently, complies with health & safety and COSHH, and can cover multiple properties efficiently.

Qualifications

• Experience as Painter & Decorator in social housing or maintenance environments.
• Strong surface preparation and finishing skills.
• Ability to work independently and safely in empty properties.

Painter & Decorator – South Tyneside Council

About the Role

South Tyneside Council is looking for an experienced Painter & Decorator to support the redecoration of void council properties and carry out anti-mould treatments.

You will be responsible for preparing and decorating properties between tenancies, ensuring homes are brought up to a clean, presentable and lettable standard before new tenants move in.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out painting and decorating works within void council properties.


• Prepare walls, ceilings, woodwork and other surfaces prior to painting.


• Complete filling, sanding, scraping and other preparation works as required.


• Apply paints and finishes to a high standard.


• Carry out anti-mould treatments to affected areas.


• Identify and report any significant damp, mould or property defects requiring further attention.


• Ensure properties are left clean, tidy and ready for occupation.


• Work in accordance with relevant health & safety and COSHH requirements.


• Follow South Tyneside Council’s property maintenance procedures and standards.


• Work efficiently across multiple properties where required.

Essential Experience

• Previous experience working as a Painter & Decorator.


• Experience of property maintenance, refurbishment or housing works.


• Experience working within void properties or social housing is highly desirable.


• Experience carrying out mould/anti-mould treatments would be advantageous.


• Good knowledge of painting, decorating and surface preparation techniques.


• Ability to work independently and complete work to a good standard.


• Understanding of health & safety requirements when working with paints and treatment products.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a skilled Painter & Decorator with experience in housing or property maintenance environments. They should be confident working within empty properties, preparing and redecorating different areas and dealing with mould-affected surfaces.

Previous experience within a local authority, housing association or social housing contractor would be particularly relevant.
