Job Title: Paediatric Respiratory Sleep/LTV Physiologist

Contract Type: PERM

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality patient care and using specialist physiological skills to make a real difference to children's lives? We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Respiratory Sleep/LTV Physiologist to join our dynamic Paediatric Respiratory Sleep team.

In this rewarding role, you will play a vital part in the diagnosis, assessment and management of patients with a wide range of sleep and respiratory disorders, including obstructive sleep apnoea, hypoventilation syndromes and chronic respiratory conditions. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will undertake and interpret a variety of diagnostic investigations, and on dedicated nights you will support the monitoring of non‑invasive ventilation therapy.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a service that embraces innovation and research, clinical excellence and patient‑centred care. You will be supported to develop your clinical skills and practice by a lead sleep physiologist, senior sleep physiologist and nurses, technicians, dedicated long term ventilation team and the wider paediatric respiratory service, including our lead consultant.

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI‑generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS, we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognising that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti‑racist, anti‑discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

We are looking for an individual with excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering outstanding care. Whether you are an experienced physiologist seeking your next challenge or a developing physiologist looking to build your career within paediatric sleep and respiratory medicine, this role provides a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a service that has a direct and lasting impact on our patients health, wellbeing and quality of life.

You will help manage the inpatient and home sleep service in coordination with the Sleep & Respiratory Technicians and the Sleep Physiologists. You will organise and run clinics where families are trained to use home sleep study equipment and analyse and provide specialist interpretation of the sleep study results for the Respiratory clinicians.

On two scheduled (according to rota) nights per month you will also run ‘LTV titration’ sleep studies. On these nights you will admit patients, apply sleep study sensors, monitor physiologic signals, and adjust ventilator settings according to a prescription and standardised protocols.

Assist in the management of the waiting list for inpatient studies and coordinate the study dates and diary management for this group of patients.

Training on procedure, policies, equipment and software will be provided.

WHAT WE’R LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an enthusiastic physiologist with formal training to a BSc or equivalent level, or with very specific equivalent training and experience in a Respiratory or Sleep Laboratory or similar clinical environment. You must have:

  • The ability to communicate with a wide range of people in a variety of settings
  • The ability to work independently, assessing and intervening as necessary to ensure patient safety
  • The ability to work with respiratory equipment and trouble shoot problems
  • Good organisation skills and effective time management
  • High level of attention to detail working with numerical and physiological data
  • The ability to work flexibly across various shifts, including nights.
