East Cheshire NHS Trust is expanding its Respiratory and Sleep service and is seeking a motivated Band 7 Respiratory and Sleep Clinical Physiologist to join our team.

The role involves delivering and developing a wide range of respiratory and sleep diagnostics, with opportunities to advance advanced testing and CPAP related care. This cross-site post is 30 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm.

Qualifications

Highly Specialist Respiratory/Sleep Physiologist

East Cheshire NHS Trust is expanding its Respiratory and Sleep service and is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Respiratory and Sleep Clinical Physiologist to join our friendly, forward-thinking team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering and developing a comprehensive range of respiratory and sleep diagnostics. Respiratory investigations include spirometry, lung volumes, gas transfer, bronchodilator reversibility and respiratory muscle assessment, with opportunities to develop advanced testing.

Our established sleep service provides physiologist-led clinics, sleep diagnostics and CPAP therapy for patients with sleep-disordered breathing, alongside face-to-face and remote follow-up and a patient helpline. You will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team and local tertiary centres.

  • Develop your expertise across respiratory physiology and sleep diagnostics.
  • Access support for further training, education and CPAP competencies.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of our services.
  • Support the training and development of junior staff, students and medical colleagues.
  • Take an active role in clinical leadership, audit, research and service improvement.
  • Contribute to MDT working and the review of complex patients.
  • Be encouraged to introduce new ideas and ways of working.
Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be an experienced, adaptable team player with excellent communication and organisational skills, able to manage and prioritise their workload effectively.

You will require previous Band 6 experience, a BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent, voluntary registration with RCCP/AHCS and relevant ARTP respiratory accreditation/competencies. Experience in sleep physiology and CPAP is desirable.

Experienced Band 6 applicants working towards the required competencies may be considered, with support to progress to Band 7 on completion of the relevant departmental competencies and qualifications.

This is a part time post working cross site at Macclesfield District General Hospital and at the new purpose built Community Diagnsotic centre in Congleton. 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

  • Ability to undertake respiratory diagnostic tests independently. (Full lung function, Muscle strength testing, 6 minute walk tests, spiromertry and reversibility, challenge testing).Producing an accurate report.
  • Ability to undertake sleep diagnostic testing including downloading and undertaking a basic overview of accuracy and technical quality of data.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex respiratory data producing accurate reports
  • Understands the education systems for Cardio-Respiratory Physiologists within the UK
  • Understands the broader role of Cardio-Respiratory Physiology within the NHS
