Job summary

Ellison Institute, LLC in Oxford is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement and support secure, reliable, scalable IT infrastructure across on-premises, hybrid-cloud and cloud environments.

Working with Network Infrastructure, Cyber Security and Software Engineering teams, you will maintain core server, storage, virtualisation, backup and cloud services supporting enterprise applications, scientific research and AI workloads.

Qualifications

• Experience administering Microsoft infrastructure, including Windows Server and Azure resources.
• Deploying and managing virtualised environments using VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
• Knowledge of server and storage hardware technologies.
• Strong understanding of core networking services, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, firewalls and VPN connectivity.
• Proven experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking and cloud services.
• Experience with backup, disaster recovery, patching and infrastructure lifecycle management.
• Experience with enterprise storage, SAN/NAS and backup solutions.
• Experience using scripting and automation tools, such as PowerShell, Bash or Python.
• Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring, alerting and incident resolution.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain server, storage, virtualisation and cloud infrastructure.
• Administer Windows Server, Linux and Microsoft Azure services, including identity and access-management components.
• Manage VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter environments.
• Support core infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, backup, disaster recovery and monitoring.
• Manage server patching, upgrades, lifecycle replacement and capacity planning.
• Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure incidents, problems and service requests.
• Maintain secure infrastructure configurations in line with cyber-security and audit requirements.
• Support hybrid-cloud connectivity and integration with OCI, Azure and other cloud services where required.
• Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks and operational procedures.
• Identify and deliver infrastructure automation, resilience and service-improvement opportunities.
