Job summary

BCHA is seeking a Night Intensive Housing Officer to work during the Thursday nights (22:00–08:00) across Exeter, Yeovil, and Plymouth. You will be the first overnight contact, help residents feel safe, and work with partners to signpost services.

The role offers full induction and tailored training to ensure high-quality support for people experiencing homelessness. Salary is £13.62 per hour, and the post emphasizes safeguarding, dignity, and compassionate responses to crisis.

Qualifications

• you have similar ‘lived experience’ and now want to give back to others;
• you already work shifts but would want or need a change of environment;
• you are a student needing some direct work experience to support your learning;

• you are a volunteer or relief worker looking to step into full time permanent work

Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact overnight, offering a calming and reassuring presence to Customers.
• Create a safe and inclusive environment for customers..
• Support customers with practical needs while encouraging self-management and independence.
• De-escalate situations with empathy and professionalism, promoting safety for all.
• Record accurate and timely notes to support joined-up working with the wider support team.
• Work collaboratively with local services, signposting and referring where appropriate.
• Respond with compassion to those in emotional distress or crisis.
• Ensure confidentiality, uphold professional boundaries, and champion dignity at all times.
• Promote community engagement, well-being activities, and life skills that support long-term progress.
