Core Purpose:
  • To work with an identified group of mainstream schools to deliver Tier 1 outreach intervention programmes to individual or small groups of students within their primary mainstream settings.
  • To provide secondary school staff with advice, guidance, and strategies to support students successfully, so pupils remain in school and avoid permanent exclusion.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Build positive relationships with an identified cohort of primary and secondary schools as a representative of the School.
  • Plan and deliver targeted intervention programmes with individual or small groups of students in their primary setting.
  • Work alongside mainstream staff to observe students in classroom settings to assess needs and advise on strategies and interventions to support children remaining in school.
Key duties:
  • Develop a programme of interventions to support students with complex and challenging needs referred for Tier 1 support.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to students and staff in mainstream schools.
  • Agree on the focus and timescales of intervention with the school at the start of each programme.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, modeling the School’s expectations of being ready, respectful, and safe.
  • Support students in managing their behaviour in a relational, trauma-informed way, supporting de-escalation as needed.
  • Visit schools to gather information for new referrals, including pupil observation, staff consultation, and visit note completion.
  • Keep accurate records of work undertaken, sharing assessment and progress information weekly with the school.
  • Complete end-of-intervention reports with advice and recommended strategies for the school to implement.
  • Attend multi-professional meetings organized by the school, including EHC reviews, PEP meetings, or team around the child meetings.
  • Provide termly reports on the support provided, including numbers of schools and students supported and the types of work undertaken.
  • Promote the welfare of children and young people, ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are followed, and report concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Person Specification Essential:
  • Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualification
  • Significant experience working with children and young people with complex needs in a classroom environment
  • Knowledge of interventions supporting young people's SEMH needs
  • Ability to work independently in various settings and unsupervised
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Ability to remain calm and empathetic, especially when supporting challenging behaviours
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work inclusively and non-judgementally, demonstrating unconditional positive regard
  • Knowledge of SEND and barriers to learning
  • Basic technology skills (internet, email, Microsoft Office)
  • Effective team working skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures
Desirable:
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., PGCE, NVQ Level 3, trauma-informed practitioner)
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Additional training (e.g., Team Teach, First Aid)

This is a full-time, permanent role, working up to 37 hours per week, term time only. A valid UK driver’s license and access to a car are essential. The role commences in April 2025.
