Job summary

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is hiring a 12-month outpatient receptionist in the Clinical Measurements Department. You will be the first point of contact for patients, visitors and staff, handling arrivals, registration, enquiries, and booking or changing appointments.

You'll work alongside clinical teams to keep pathways efficient, comply with Trust policies and complete mandatory training. Flexible weekend/bank holiday work is required to support service needs.

Qualifications

• Four GCSEs at grade D or above including maths and English.
• Basic knowledge of the receptionist role.
• Good keyboard and IT skills with accurate data input.
• Confidentiality and data protection awareness.
• Interest in the role with good literacy and numeracy.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients attending appointments, manage arrivals and tell clinical staff of attendance.
• Register patients accurately and update demographic details.
• Respond to telephone, email and face-to-face enquiries courteously.
• Book, amend, cancel and reschedule appointments in line with procedures.
• Support effective use of clinic capacity.
• Work with clinical and administrative colleagues to keep diagnostic pathways efficient.
• Maintain accurate patient records.
• Prioritise a varied workload in a busy environment.
• Deal sensitively with anxious patients or those needing extra support.
• Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for all service users.
• Comply with Trust policies and complete mandatory training.
