Stand out for this role — generate a tailored resume and cover letter in about a minute.
Northern Gas and Power is launching a Lead Gen programme in Preston, offering structured training and hands-on coaching to help you grasp high‑value B2B energy sales. You’ll pro‑actively identify opportunities, build relationships, and progress to more senior roles based on performance.
You’ll be joining a fast-paced, target-driven team with a direct path to Energy Consultant roles, a Friday‑friendly WFH policy, and competitive incentives designed to reward top performers.
In this role, you need to be sharp, hungry, and willing to learn how commercial sales actually work from the people who do it best. We don’t expect a decade of experience or a full contact book. Along the way, we’ll help you achieve both.
Northern Gas and Power’s Lead Gen programme is where serious sales careers begin. You’ll be trained from scratch by experienced commercial coaches and paired with a senior Closer, who’ll mentor you through live deals. You will also receive ongoing support and motivation from your team manager.
At NGP, you’re the front line of a business that helps some of the UK’s biggest companies make smarter energy decisions — and you’ll learn more about B2B sales in six months here than most people learn in a lifetime elsewhere.
In short, your job is to find the opportunities, build the relationships, and learn the mechanics of high-value B2B sales so that when you’re ready, you can progress to Energy Consultant and beyond.
Weeks 1–2: Structured classroom and floor training — energy market fundamentals, objection handling, CRM, call structure. You’ll shadow experienced agents and listen to live calls.
Weeks 3–6: You’re on the phones with direct support. Your Closer, your coach and your manager review your calls regularly. Targets are introduced but ramped gradually, as the focus is on quality, not volume.
Weeks 9–12: You’re now building your pipeline, your first deals are progressing through to close, and you’ll see commission hitting your payslip!
It’s fast-paced and target-driven. Whilst not everyone thrives in this environment, the people who succeed go on to build careers that genuinely change their lives.

“People ask me how I’ve done so well and the honest answer is I keep picking up the phone and working away. Every person I speak to is trying to run a successful business, often stressed about energy costs they don’t fully understand. If I can help them even a little bit, the call was worth making! I’ve now got customers who specifically ask for me when they come up for renewal. If you’re good with people and you’re prepared to work hard, the rest will come. I’m proof of that.”
