Job summary

Thames Water seeks an Operational Technology Compute System Engineer to manage OT compute infrastructure, patching, and security. You will work with stakeholders to deliver cloud-enabled solutions and act as SME during incident response. The role includes on-call duties and cross-team collaboration across IT/OT domains.

The position requires SC clearance, experience with AD, SCCM, VMware, and Azure, and a proactive, detail-oriented approach under pressure.

Qualifications

Higher education qualification (HNC or equivalent) in an engineering or IT discipline.
Proven experience in maintaining, patching, and supporting infrastructure and enterprise systems.
Security clearance to SC level.
Familiarity with enterprise application administration, including Active Directory, SCCM, VMware, AV software, and Azure cloud services.
Knowledge of IP communications and networking, including LAN and WAN.
Understanding of industry-specific SCADA systems, or willingness to learn. Proficient scripting skills using PowerShell or similar.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; confident in dealing with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven decision-making skills and the ability to balance operational, commercial, and customer needs.
Understanding of IT and OT delivery approaches. (e.g., ITIL, Agile, Waterfall, Lean).
Self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

Maintain OT compute infrastructure: patching, lifecycle management, licensing.
Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver new technical solutions, including cloud-based technologies.
Act as a point of contact for incident response and provide fast, effective resolution.
Design and implement infrastructure changes at both high and low levels.
Ensure security compliance through audits and proactive management.
Support regular updates across the full stack: application, OS, BIOS, hypervisors.
Administer enterprise technologies: AD, SCCM, VMware, SEP, Dell OME, patch tools, NTP, PKI, hybrid Azure.
Contribute to Industry 4.0 initiatives within OT compute.
Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota after probation.
Collaborate with other technical teams for improvements and deployments.
Stay current with industry best practices; act as SME in compute domain.
Engage in personal development and training; standby for 24/7 support.
