Job summary

The orthoptist position at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sits within the orthoptic team, primarily at King's Mill Hospital with clinics at Ashfield Health Village and Newark Hospital. Both newly qualified and experienced orthoptists are welcome, with a structured preceptorship and mentoring program to support development.

You will assess, diagnose and manage ocular motility and visual development disorders, collaborating closely with ophthalmologists to provide high-quality care

Qualifications

• BMedSci orthoptic degree or Diploma of the British Orthoptic Society (DBO) or equivalent.
• HCPC registration as an orthoptist.
• Experience as an orthoptist or clinical placement for newly qualified orthoptists.
• Knowledge of orthoptics, ophthalmology and neurology.
• Continuing professional development and competency-based assessments.
• Ability to provide orthoptic service at King's Mill Hospital and travel to Ashfield Health Village and Newark Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and manage ocular motility and visual development disorders.
• Support the visual development of children and manage adults with double vision or neurological conditions.
• Contribute to clinical decisions and personalised treatment plans.
• Work alongside ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals.
