Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a consultant in plastic surgery to join a multidisciplinary team focusing on orthoplastic trauma and microsurgical reconstruction of limbs and breasts.

The role includes involvement in on-call duties, service development, teaching and mentoring trainees, and engagement in academic activities and regional teaching programmes. GMC registration and microsurgical fellowship are required.

Qualifications

• Primary medical qualification required.
• Microsurgical fellowship mandatory.
• Logbook evidence of major lower limb reconstruction required.
• Full GMC registration with entry onto GMC Specialist Register within 6 months of AAC date.

Responsibilities

• Integrate into multi-disciplinary teams across the trust.
• Develop areas of practice and streamline the surgical journey in orthoplastic trauma care.
• Contribute microsurgical expertise to the oncoplastic breast reconstruction service.
• Join the plastic surgery on-call rota.
• Contribute to service development and improving the patient experience.
• Support academic interest and development of the department's academic portfolio.
• Engage in regional teaching programmes.
• Mentor trainees and undergraduates interested in plastic surgery careers.
• Maintain a clinical activity log.
