Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Permanent orthopaedic post within the plaster technician team. The role covers Southampton General Hospital and the Royal South Hants Hospital, focusing on applying casts, bracing and splints for both adult and paediatric trauma and elective cases.

Role involves cross-site travel, A&E and theatres cover as needed, with a Monday–Friday daytime pattern. Requires British Casting Certificate and BOA registration.

Qualifications

• British Casting Certificate is required.
• Current registration with the BOA is required.
• Experience in a hospital/clinical environment is preferred.
• Excellent communication and patient-handling skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Apply routine and specialist casts and splints for trauma and elective patients.
• Cast adults and children across wards, clinics and outpatients.
• Remove K-wires and clips; perform wound care as needed.
• Educate patients on cast care and provide in-person/telephone support.
• Maintain thorough documentation in cast forms and online notes.
• Work across Southampton General Hospital and the Royal South Hants Hospital, with cross-site cover.
