Location: Oxford, UK

Work Model: Hybrid

We are looking for an Organic Social Media Lead to join our Marketing team. This role is responsible for owning and leading Oxford Nanopore’s organic social strategy, setting direction across channels to drive reach, engagement and brand impact.

Job Summary

The Social Media Lead is responsible for owning and growing Oxford Nanopore's organic social media presence. They will be comfortable independently managing channels, leading on social-first content creation, and making data-driven decisions that improve performance. This is a hands‑on, individual contributor role suited to someone who is as confident shooting and editing a reel as they are presenting a monthly analytics report and simplifying complex scientific breakthroughs. They will work closely with the Paid Social Lead to ensure organic and paid activity are aligned on the delivery of cross‑functional marketing campaigns and promotion of flagship events. A key part of this role is translating complex scientific content into formats that engage and inspire audiences across platforms.

Key Responsibilities
Organic Social Media Management
  • Own and lead Oxford Nanopore’s organic social strategy, setting direction across channels to drive reach, engagement and brand impact.
  • Manage Oxford Nanopore's organic social channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, X/Twitter, Facebook, BlueSky) day-to-day, including scheduling, publishing and community engagement.
  • Maintain and execute a structured content calendar that ensures consistent, appropriate posting frequency optimised for each platform's algorithm and audience.
  • Proactively identify trends, emerging formats and platform updates, and adapt the strategy accordingly.
  • Understand the vision and tone of voice of Oxford Nanopore, where real‑world impact from our customers is a key part of our authentic marketing approach.
Social First Content Creation
  • Write platform‑appropriate copy that adapts tone across audiences — from genomics researchers to a broader science‑curious public.
  • Generate content for corporate social media channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, X (Twitter), BlueSky, Facebook, YouTube), and continued pipeline of rich content, to address multiple audiences in line with campaign goals.
  • Create social‑first content including reels, short‑form video, stories, static graphics, GIFs, carousels and video thumbnails — to a high standard.
  • Help to create video content suited to short‑form platforms, demonstrating a strong visual instinct and understanding of what performs organically.
  • Condense long‑form scientific content (e.g. articles, white papers, application notes) into engaging, accessible social copy without losing accuracy.
Campaigns & Cross‑Channel Alignment
  • Develop organic social plans to support marketing campaigns and GTM launches, defining content, objectives, channel mix, timelines and success metrics.
  • Work in close collaboration with the paid social lead to ensure organic and paid activity are aligned in messaging, timing and creative, providing assets and copy as needed to support paid campaigns.
Events & Cross‑Functional Support
  • Drive social media promotion for Oxford Nanopore's flagship global events, including pre‑event build‑up, live coverage and post‑event content amplification.
  • Work closely with the broader marketing and communications team to ensure social activity aligns with brand voice, campaign goals and the Oxford Nanopore community ethos.
Data, Reporting & Optimisation
  • Produce and present monthly social media performance reports to the marketing team, highlighting key metrics (reach, engagement, video views, follower growth, CTR) and deriving actionable insights.
  • Use data to make decisions, from content format and posting time to channel prioritisation, and continuously test and iterate to improve results.
  • Track KPIs against campaign and channel goals, flagging risks and opportunities in a timely way.
Person Specification
