Job summary

LA International is seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator to manage production and non-production DB clusters in a predominantly onsite setting.

Responsibilities include performance tuning, capacity planning, backup/restore, and monitoring of log files, with a focus on stability and security across core databases. This contract role requires SC clearance and offers a 6-month initial term with onsite work in Manchester and Barrow.

Qualifications

• Experience administering Oracle DB in production and non-prod environments.
• Skilled in performance tuning, memory usage and I/O optimization.
• Familiar with backup/restore, archivelogs and recovery procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain scalability, integrity, performance and security of core DB clusters.
• Own production DB clusters and support related technologies.
• Monitor space, memory, I/O and performance; tune as needed.
• Monitor alert logs, backups and archive logs.
• Ensure changes are reflected in the backup strategy.
• Assist with database restoration during crashes.
• Coordinate with Operations Manager and Senior DBA.

Role Title: SQL - Oracle Database Administrator

Location: Manchester / Barrow - 3 days onsite/week

Duration: 6 initial months contract

Rate INSIDE IR35 MARKET RATE

Role Description:

• Focusing on scalability, integrity, performance, availability, security, monitoring and troubleshooting of core DB clusters
• Owning core database clusters in Production as well as on a wide range of technologies
• Reporting into the Operations Manager and working alongside the Senior DBA
• Oracle schema object sizing.
• Monitor data block organisation.
• Monitor physical storage and contention.
• Monitor tablespace utilization
• Memory usage.
• Physical I/O tuning.
• Lock monitoring.
• Database resource utilization.
• Alert log, Backup status
• Database free space.
• Performance tuning ratios
• Check Invalid objects
• Monitor build-up of trace files.
• Monitor growth of alert logs.
• Purge log and trace files, which are no longer required.
• Database Monitoring
• Cache (Buffer Cache, Library Cache, Dictionary Cache) hit/miss ratios
• Point in time database recovery, using on-line redo logs.
• Provide advice during database restoration following a crash or media failure.
• Monitor Archive log retention period for database recoverability and highlight issues / limitations.
• Ensure database changes are reflected into the backup strategy.
