Job summary

IntaPeople: STEM Recruitment is seeking an experienced Oracle DBA / Unix Administrator in the Cardiff area. You will support enterprise Oracle databases and the Unix/Linux infrastructure, ensuring availability, security and performance while handling backups, patching and recovery.

The role is hybrid (2–3 days in the office) with a mix of hands-on database and operating system tasks, SQL/PLSQL tuning, and collaboration with developers on schema design.

Qualifications

• Solid commercial experience supporting enterprise Oracle databases.
• Oracle 11g, 19c or newer preferred.
• Strong Unix/Linux administration skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily checks across databases, backups, filesystems and tablespaces; identify errors and capacity issues.
• Investigate failed services and other database or system issues.
• Manage Oracle backups and recovery using RMAN.
• Perform expdp/impdp schema refreshes; full and data-only refreshes.
• Monitor and tune database performance (SQL, long-running processes, SGA/PGA).
• Install, patch and upgrade Oracle database software and tools.
• Manage database users, roles, privileges and security policies.
• Support database deployments; collaborate with developers on schema design and troubleshooting.
• Maintain Unix/Linux environments alongside Oracle database estate.
• Automate routine tasks using Bash scripting and Windows batch scripting.
