Job summary

ECM Selection in the United Kingdom is seeking a Computer Vision Physicist to lead the design of optical systems for machine vision, taking projects from concept through prototype to product release.

The role requires a PhD in applied optics (or equivalent industry experience), expertise in ray tracing, lens design, optical simulations, and image processing, with onsite work and security clearance. Experience with VIS/NIR/FIR bands and optical test benches is valued.

Qualifications

• Degree in Physics or Electronics followed by PhD in applied optics (or equivalent industry experience).
• Demonstrable experience with optical systems for machine vision; lasers desirable.
• Strong understanding of ray tracing, lens design, optical simulations, image processing, electro-optical systems and opto-mechanics.
• Experience with optical test methodology and validation.

Responsibilities

• Design optical systems (lenses, mirrors, sensors) and optimise for VIS, NIR and FIR applications.
• Perform simulations using OpticStudio or similar tools; select components and test prototypes.
• Document processes and validation results for production readiness.
