Job summary

National Grid is seeking an Optel and Metering Technician to support telecoms and metering projects across the Central Regional Team. The role is peripatetic with a hybrid working approach, and a company vehicle is provided to support travel to substations within the region and beyond.

You will install, test and maintain Telecoms/ICT systems, lead project activities safely, and help ensure reliable operation of the electricity network. A strong safety record and LV skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of Telecommunications/ICT systems.
• LV systems knowledge and low voltage skills.
• Experience with fibre and copper cabling.
• STEM GCSE minimum grade C or equivalent telecoms experience.

Responsibilities

• Install and commission replacement OpTel network infrastructure.
• Lead projects and perform authorised person responsibilities safely.
• Install, test, maintain Telecoms/ICT, LAN/WAN, metering and telephony.
• Carry out optical and electrical cabling for new installations and upgrades.
• Respond to OpTel emergencies with fault finding and resolution.
• Coordinate procurement and supply of equipment and materials.
• Deliver reliable services in line with SLA commitments.
