Newmedica is seeking an Ophthalmic Nurse to support outpatient clinics, pre- and post-operative assessments, and theatre day operations. You will work with clinic staff and doctors to ensure high-quality patient care and accurate record-keeping.

The role involves providing patient education on eye conditions, treatment options, and medications, as well as assisting in minor operations and contributing to audits and CPD.

Qualifications

• Excellent patient-facing care and communication.
• Experience supporting ophthalmology clinics or surgery is desirable.
• Ability to record patient history accurately and concisely.
• Competence in basic diagnostic procedures and clinical assessments.

Responsibilities

Job description

Ophthalmic Nurses play an important role in the efficient and safe running of our services. The Ophthalmic Nurse supports both outpatients across a range of clinics including general, pre and post-operative assessment and works very closely with the clinic assistants, theatre teams and doctors. They also have a role to play on the day of theatre ensuring by supporting the preparation for patients for theatre, undertaking the role of runner in theatre and ensuring patients are well cared for in the recovery lounge.,

• To accurately record patient history relevant to the clinic.
• To perform a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures and clinical assessments in order to provide the Consultant with the relevant information for diagnosis and treatment.
• To advise patients on the appropriate care for their eye conditions.
• To explain the implications of eye conditions, treatment options, medication and possible side effects to patients, some of which may be distressed or confused.
• To assist in Minor Operations in the treatment room
• To support the Consultant across all types of outpatients clinics undertaking diagnostic testing as required.
• To support the theatre team on the day of theatre in the pre, post op lounges and as a runner, as required.
• To participate in clinical audit and research projects, as required.
• To act as a role model and teacher, providing mentorship and support demonstrate exemplary practice to all members of the clinic team
• Promote a professional and happy environment conducive to high patient and staff morale, achieved by leadership, personal example and direct involvement in the activities of the department environment.
• To keep accurate patient health records, updating electronic patient records or completing handwritten clinical notes.
• To support senior staff in the investigation of complaints and clinical incidents, ensuring that any investigations are thorough and that action plans are completed to enable lessons to be learned and shared.

• £36,000 - £37,500 per annum FTE
• Up to 5% annual bonus. Subject to criteria being met.
