Job summary

Ringway is seeking a general maintenance operative to perform a wide range of highway tasks, working alongside a Chargehand. You will respond to emergencies, assist with winter maintenance, and support with record-keeping and equipment care.

The role requires flexible hours, a valid driving licence, and a safety-conscious approach. Experience is valued, with opportunities for training and career development within Ringway.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 months+ experience in highways or general maintenance.
• Willingness to respond to emergencies and out-of-hours calls.
• Adequate training in risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Possession of or willingness to obtain LGV licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance works and routine cyclical tasks.
• Respond to emergencies and call outs during or out of hours on rotas.
• Assist with winter maintenance activities as second man or driver’s mate.
• Complete record sheets (paper or electronic) and maintain plant/equipment.

Job description

To carry out general maintenance works and operations, working with a Chargehand, undertaking a wide range of routine and cyclical works. To respond to emergencies and call outs during or out of hours on rotas as required and assist with winter maintenance activities as a second man or driver’s mate. Includes apprentices who have fully completed training.

Specialist Skills

• To have and be able to apply a wide range of generalist skills
• To understand risk assessments and to assess according to safe systems of work
• To be able to understand and carry out work as set out in a specification
• Generally hold 12 months+ experience
• Potential & interest in obtaining LGV licence
• Undertaken training on: General health & safety awareness / Risk assessment awareness / Traffic Management / Use of PDA as required
• Ability to use small plant and equipment
• Ability to operate mini excavator

• Team player, prepared to contribute and participate fully in team work
• Prepared to work varying hours to meet the needs of the business
• Willingness to apply skills to a variety of different highways jobs, with changing team members
• Prepared to develop and undertake relevant training and qualifications
• Be able to complete record sheets, paper or electronic

• Ability to use own initiative
• To understand and be responsible for own safety, plus that those around them
• To be available for emergency and/or winter call outs

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time - 39 - Monday to Friday
