Job summary

Ringway in Welwyn Garden City is seeking an Operative - General to perform a range of routine and cyclical maintenance tasks on highways. You will work under a Chargehand, respond to call-outs, and assist with winter maintenance as a second team member or driver’s mate.

The role requires a current driving license, a CSCS card if client requirements apply, and a proactive, safety-conscious approach to daily operations. Flexible hours and on-site work are expected.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance works and operations under supervision.
• Respond to emergencies and call outs, including out-of-hours on rota.
• Assist with winter maintenance activities as needed.
• Work as a second man or driver’s mate when required.
• Possess the ability to operate small plant and, where trained, a mini excavator.
• Maintain records and complete paper or electronic record sheets.

Summary

To carry out general maintenance works and operations, working with a Chargehand, undertaking a wide range of routine and cyclical works. To respond to emergencies and call outs during or out of hours on rotas as required and assist with winter maintenance activities as a second man or driver’s mate. Includes apprentices who have fully completed training

• Potential & interest in obtaining LGV licence
• Undertaken training on: General health & safety awareness / Risk assessment awareness / Traffic Management / Use of PDA as required
• Ability to use small plant and equipment
• Ability to operate mini excavator
