Job summary

Adler and Allan is seeking a Civils Drainage Operative to join our on-site team in Rochford. This permanent, full-time role involves assisting with drainage works and supporting the Lead Operative to deliver safe, high-quality utility services.

You will attend toolbox talks, handle drainage installation tasks, use hand and power tools, and help maintain safe working practices while progressing your skills through training and site records.

Qualifications

• Basic experience in drainage or civils construction.
• CSCS card is required.
• Good health and safety awareness on construction sites.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Attend site meetings and toolbox talks.
• Assist with excavation, installation and maintenance of drainage systems.
• Lay drainage pipes, chambers, gullies and fittings per drawings and specifications.
• Support with trenching, backfill and reinstatement to required specifications.
• Ensure safe working practices and report issues to the Team Leader.
• Maintain a clean, safe site and complete records as required.

Civils Drainage Operative

Drainage Operatives are to assist in the delivery of on-site project works to a safe, compliant and to a high standard of workmanship. You will play a vital role in supporting the operational activities necessary for the delivery of utility services to our customers.

The operative will be responsible to the Lead Operative

More about the role:

• To attend and actively participate in Stand Downs, Team Briefs, Toolbox Talks and required training courses.
• Assist with the excavation, installation, repair and maintenance of surface water, foul water and highway drainage systems.
• Lay drainage pipes, chambers, gullies, catch pits and associated fittings in accordance with drawings, specifications and manufacturer requirements, under guidance.
• Assist with trench support systems and ensure excavations are maintained in a safe condition.
• Carry out pipe bedding, backfilling, compaction and reinstatement activities to required specifications.
• Support the Team Leader with drainage installation activities, including checking levels, gradients and alignment.
• Safely locate and work around existing underground services in accordance with permit, utility avoidance and safe digging procedures.
• Identify and promptly report defects, damage, safety concerns, quality issues or unforeseen site conditions to the Team Leader.
• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, plant and machinery where trained, authorised and competent to do so.
• Assist with over-pumping, flow management and traffic management activities where trained and authorised.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment, ensuring waste materials are handled and disposed of in accordance with company and environmental requirements.
• Accurately complete work records, photographs and other site documentation as required.
• Represent the company professionally when dealing with customers, clients and members of the public.

Qualifications

About you

• Basic experience in drainage or civils construction.
• CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
• Good understanding of health and safety practices on construction sites.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Good IT skills including ability to use mobile devices such as Mobile Phones & PDA’s
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel to various sites and work flexible hours.
• Full UK driving licence.
