Job summary

Adler & Allan in Rochford are hiring a Civils Drainage Operative on a permanent, full-time basis to assist in delivering on-site drainage works to high standards. You will support excavation, installation, repair and maintenance of surface water, foul water and highway drainage systems, under the guidance of the Lead Operative.

The role requires a valid CSCS card, the ability to work outdoors in all weathers, good health and safety practices, and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Basic experience in drainage or civils construction.
• CSCS card.
• Good understanding of health and safety practices on construction sites.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physically fit and able to carry out manual labour.
• Good IT skills including use of mobile devices.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel to various sites and work flexible hours.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Attend and participate in Stand Downs, Team Briefs, Toolbox Talks and required training.
• Assist with excavation, installation, repair and maintenance of drainage systems.
• Lay drainage pipes, chambers, gullies and fittings per drawings and specs.
• Assist with trench support systems and maintain safe excavations.
• Carry out pipe bedding, backfilling, compaction and reinstatement work.
• Support drainage installation activities, including level checks and alignment.
• Safely locate and work around underground services following safety procedures.
• Identify and report defects, safety concerns or site conditions promptly.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, plant and machinery as trained.
• Assist with flow management and traffic management as trained.
• Keep site clean, safe and compliant; complete records and photos.
• Represent the company professionally with customers and the public.

DrainageOperatives are to assist in the delivery of on-site project works to a safe, compliant and to a high standard of workmanship. You will play a vital role in supporting the operational activities necessary for the delivery of utility services to our customers.

The operative will be responsible to theLead Operative

More about the role:

• To attend and actively participate in Stand Downs, Team Briefs, Toolbox Talks and required training courses.
• Assist with the excavation, installation, repair and maintenance of surface water, foul water and highway drainage systems.
• Lay drainage pipes, chambers, gullies, catch pits and associated fittings in accordance with drawings, specifications and manufacturer requirements, under guidance.
• Assist with trench support systems and ensure excavations are maintained in a safe condition.
• Carry out pipe bedding, backfilling, compaction and reinstatement activities to required specifications.
• Support the Team Leader with drainage installation activities, including checking levels, gradients and alignment.
• Safely locate and work around existing underground services in accordance with permit, utility avoidance and safe digging procedures.
• Identify and promptly report defects, damage, safety concerns, quality issues or unforeseen site conditions to the Team Leader.
• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, plant and machinery where trained, authorised and competent to do so.
• Assist with over-pumping, flow management and traffic management activities where trained and authorised.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment, ensuring waste materials are handled and disposed of in accordance with company and environmental requirements.
• Accurately complete work records, photographs and other site documentation as required.
• Represent the company professionally when dealing with customers, clients and members of the public.

Qualifications

About you:

Basicexperience in drainage or civils construction.

CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).

Good understanding of health and safety practices on construction sites.

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Physically fit and able to carry out manual labour.

Good IT skills including ability to use mobile devices such as Mobile Phones & PDA’s

Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.

Willingness to travel to various sites and work flexible hours.

Full UK driving licence.
