Job summary

National Gas is Britain's national gas network, responsible for maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. As an Operations Technician, you will undertake installation, inspection, commissioning, operation, repair and maintenance on terminals, compressor stations, pipelines and related assets within your geographic zone.

You will apply Safe Systems of Work, respond to operational challenges, and support asset availability across the transmission network

Qualifications

  • Proven maintenance and operational knowledge in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, electronics or control systems.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas or similar process industries with hazardous-area equipment.
  • Ability to work within Safe Systems of Work.
  • Training certifications to support knowledge (e.g., COMPEX EX11).

Responsibilities

  • Carry out installation, inspection, commissioning, maintenance, repair on pipelines and compressor stations.
  • Diagnose faults and resolve equipment issues to maximise plant reliability.
  • Apply safe systems of work, issue permits and implement isolations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and asset records in line with regulations.
  • Support delivery, construction and commissioning of new assets across the transmission network.
  • Monitor and protect the high-pressure pipeline system and oversee third-party activities.
  • Provide technical expertise during routine operations and emergencies.

Job description

Location Requirment - Candidates must be located within a reasonable communtable distance to the site, preferrably within 1-hour.

Working Pattern - 5-days, Monday - Friday, on-site.

About The Role

As an Operations Technician, your role is to undertake installation, inspection, commissioning, operation, repair, maintenance and emergency response activities associated with Terminal, Compressor Station, Pipeline and AGI assets within a geographic zone of the national transmission system within discipline and competencies as required.

Your work will directly contribute to the performance, resilience and future development of one of the UK's most important energy networks.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Carrying out installation, inspection, commissioning, maintenance, repair and operational activities on pipelines, compressor stations, terminals and associated mechanical assets.
  • Diagnosing faults and resolving equipment issues to maximise plant reliability, performance and availability.
  • Applying safe systems of work, issuing permits and implementing isolations to ensure all activities are completed safely and compliantly.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance, operational and asset records in line with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Supporting the delivery, construction and commissioning of new assets and infrastructure projects across the transmission network.
  • Monitoring and protecting the high-pressure pipeline system, including supporting inspection programmes and overseeing third-party activities where required.
  • Providing technical expertise during routine operations and emergency situations, including participation in standby and incident response arrangements.
What You'll Bring

The role would suit someone who thrives in a hands-on engineering environment, enjoys fault-finding and wants to make a real impact on the UK's energy network.

  • Post holders will normally possess proven maintenance, operational knowledge and experience gained within a relevant engineering discipline of Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics or Control Systems
  • Undertaking maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification work within the Oil & Gas (or other similar Process) Industry within relevant discipline as well inspection work on equipment installed in hazardous areas
  • Operating, controlling and undertaking work within Safe Systems of Work
  • Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the Oil & Gas (or other similar Process) Industry
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering legislation and Health & Safety regulations, with a commitment to maintaining compliance in all work activities.
  • Operation and control of process plant and equipment
  • Possess relevant Training Certification and/or Evidence of Competencies to support knowledge and experience
  • Mechanical – Compex EX11 - Hazardous Equipment
