Job summary

National Gas seeks a Project Operations Representative for the St Fergus Control System Replacement project. You will act as the Operations interface, ensuring safe, efficient delivery of project activities and providing technical input across the project lifecycle.

The role emphasizes safety culture, compliance, and engagement with principal contractors, with a strong focus on asset integrity and operational performance. 5-days on site at St Fergus.

Qualifications

• Experience in design, maintenance and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, electronics or control systems.
• Strong understanding of process safety principles in operations.
• Completed apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline; HNC/HND recommended.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the project team and respond to Technical Queries.
• Locate operational and as-built drawings.
• Attend progress meetings and advise on plant operations and limitations.
• Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
• Remain hands-on with site activities and represent operations in project decisions.
• Manage setting to work per safe control of work procedures.
• Lead change management modifications from design to closure.
• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, HAZCON, LOPA studies.

About The Role

As a Project Operations Representative, you will serve as a key interface between the St Fergus Control System Replacement Project and Operations, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of project activities. Provide technical support and operational input. You will promote a strong safety culture, compliance with company policies and procedures, sharing of best practices and safety initiatives across principal contractors.

What You'll Be Doing

• Provide technical support to the project team, promptly replying to Technical Queries.
• Locate operational and as-built drawings.
• Attend project progress meetings and provide constructive input and guidance on physical plant operations / limitations.
• Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
• Remain hands-on with site activities throughout the project as operational demands allow, maintaining authorised roles, retaining close engagement with critical assets, and ensuring operational considerations are accurately represented within project decisions and delivery.
• Manage setting to work and in accordance with the safe control of work procedures.
• Initiator for management of change modification process, follow design, installation, commissioning and closure of the modification.
• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, HAZCON, LOPA studies.

• Experience in the design, maintenance and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, electronics or control systems.
• A strong understanding of process safety principles and their application within an operational environment.
• A completed apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline such as Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics or Control Systems.
• A minimum HNC/HND qualification in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation.
• CompEx Ex01-Ex04 certification for the installation, inspection and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment in hazardous areas.
• The ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, contractors and operational stakeholders, providing clear technical advice and guidance.
• A proactive approach to safety, risk management and continuous improvement.
• A valid UK driving licence and a willingness to be actively involved in site-based activities.
• A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to identify issues and drive improvements.
• Knowledge and understanding of regulated environments.
