Job summary

Company Shop Group in Tankersley is seeking an experienced Operational Supervisor - Nights to join the management team at the Tankersley Distribution Centre. The role carries direct and indirect managerial responsibilities across several teams handling a busy operation with up to 40 staff on the night shift.

You will oversee home shopping, chill produce, FLT and warehouse activities, monitor workflow and safety, and drive continuous improvement while upholding Company Shop standards.

Responsibilities

• Daily management of a dynamic operational environment across multiple teams
• Oversee day-to-day activity across home shopping, chill produce, FLT and warehouse
• Monitor workflow and risks, ensure corrective actions
• Flexible redeployment of staff to meet daily targets and customer expectations
• Regular 121s, attendance management and feedback
• Recruitment and onboarding of new staff
• Adhere to health, safety, food safety and quality procedures
• Ensure PPE is provided, used and stored
• Record/report accidents, near misses and hazards
• Lead continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration
• Communicate effectively to motivate and develop teams
• Ensure compliance with Company Shop Group policies

Job description

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Operational Supervisor- Nights to join the management team at Company Shop. The Operations Shift Supervisor- will be pivotal to the success of the Tankersley Distribution Centre. The role will see direct and indirect managerial responsibilities across various teams who are managing the operational activity, with up to 40 staff across the day shift. We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate a solid commitment to delivery whilst adhering to quality, health and safety, food and environmental standards and processes.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• Daily management of a dynamic operational environment that may be impacted by deliveries, systems and processes
• Oversee the day-to-day operational activity across all areas including home shopping, chill produce, FLT and warehouse, tray sortation, stock control, goods in/out
• Monitor workflow, identify any potential risk that may impact SLA's and agree timely corrective action through to resolution
• Flexible, fast and effective re-deployment of staff to meet daily challenges and ensure targets/ customer expectations are fully met
• Management of staff, to include: Regular 121's, document discussions and follow up actions/ feedback
• Absence monitoring
• Disciplinary and grievance issues in accordance with Company Shop policies
• Recruitment and onboarding of new staff
• Adhere to all environmental, food safety and quality/ hygiene procedures when undertaking duties
• Ensure Health & Safety instructions and procedures are followed: Machinery, equipment, or vehicles used within the work area are maintained, correctly guarded and meet health & Safety requirements
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided, used, and stored appropriately
• Health & Safety issues raised with departmental managers in a timely manner
• Record/report all accidents and near misses
• Report all hazards, safety shortcomings or anything that could result in serious or imminent danger
• Perform investigations in Health & Safety and compliance breach and deviations from procedures, ensure investigation reports and corrective/preventative actions are closed out
• Drive change and continuous improvement- constantly look at operational improvements, sharing knowledge and lead by example
• Colleagues Engage your team both within your department and within other departments to support cross functional and positive working relationships
• Regular team briefings, strive to create a team environment through effective communication, motivation, equality, and encouragement
• Employ a supportive and high performing culture with consistent delivery, through excellent leadership and motivation, that fully utilises and develops your teams' skills and capabilities
• Lead and develop members of your team to deliver performance against plan and ensure they deliver the tasks they are accountable for
• Ensure that all members of your team adhere to all Company Shop Group policies and procedures
• Active promote and encourage the reporting of any near misses and accidents
• Support, develop, coach and guide all members of your team through the use of development and succession planning
• Keep up to date with information relevant to your department and cascade this accordingly to your team
• Ensure that all Health, Safety & Environmental policies and practices are upheld, whilst proactively encouraging your team to promote a culture of good HSE practice
• Actively promote good Health & Safety instructions, initiatives, and training across the site
• Proven record of management in a large-scale operation whilst managing a team of staff
• Solid interpersonal skills with an ability to anticipated and rectify potential problems
• Lead by example and always uphold Company Shop Group values
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
• To be flexible and adaptable to support the needs of the business
• Strong operational and technical knowledge of your departmental area

Location: Company Shop Limited, Wentworth Way, Wentworth Ind Est, Tankersley, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 3DH Salary: £33'626 per annum plus an extra £2'600 per annum nights rate Hours of work: 40 hours per week, working 9:00pm-7am Friday -Monday (4x days 10 hour shifts)
