Job summary

The Coal Authority is seeking an Operations Manager – Metal Mines to manage the operation and maintenance of mine water treatment schemes across England and Wales, ensuring safety, compliance and efficiency while delivering long-term environmental benefits.

This role works under an NEC4 Term Service Contract with contractors, regulators and project teams, building trusted relationships with organisations such as the Environment Agency, Defra and Natural Resources Wales.

Qualifications

• You’ll enjoy solving practical challenges, working with contractors and partners, and making sound decisions in a complex operational environment.
• You may come from utilities, water, environmental management, engineering, infrastructure, asset management or another operationally focused sector.

Responsibilities

• In this role, you’ll manage the operation and maintenance of mine water treatment schemes and associated assets, initially in the Pennines and Lake District, with potential to support other areas in future.
• You’ll oversee safe, compliant and efficient operations, manage budgets, contracts and risks, and support improvement projects that optimise scheme performance.
• You’ll also build trusted relationships with organisations including the Environment Agency, Defra and Natural Resources Wales, helping shape how current and future schemes deliver lasting benefits for rivers, communities and ecosystems.
