Job summary

Mining Remediation Authority is seeking an Operations Manager for metal mine water treatment schemes in England and Wales. You will lead operational delivery, safety, and environmental performance while engaging stakeholders across regulators, contractors and communities.

You will manage budgets, contracts and risk, and contribute to scheme improvements and future project design. The role supports a flexible, hybrid working arrangement from home with UK-wide responsibilities.

About You

Every day, our mine water treatment schemes help protect rivers, wildlife and communities from the legacy impacts of historic mining. We're recruiting an Operations Manager - Metal Mines to help manage a portfolio of mine water treatment schemes that are improving water quality and delivering lasting environmental benefits across England and Wales.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine operational management, environmental stewardship and stakeholder engagement. You'll work closely with contractors, regulators, technical specialists and project teams to ensure these nationally important assets continue to operate safely, efficiently and effectively, while helping shape the future design and operation of new schemes.

We're looking for people who enjoy solving complex challenges, building strong relationships and driving continuous improvement. You might come from a background in utilities, water, environmental management, engineering, infrastructure, asset management or another operationally focused sector. What matters most is your ability to lead work collaboratively, make sound decisions and deliver positive outcomes.

About The Role

In this role you'll:

• Manage the operation and maintenance of mine water treatment schemes and associated assets, initially in the Pennines and Lake District, though potentially in other areas in the future.
• Act in the capacity of Service Manager using an NEC4 Term Service Contract.
• Work closely with contractors and partners to ensure safe, efficient and compliant operations.
• Support improvement projects and identify opportunities to optimise scheme performance.
• Manage budgets, contracts and operational risks.
• Build trusted relationships with organisations including the Environment Agency, Defra and Natural Resources Wales.
• Help deliver lasting environmental improvements that benefit rivers, communities and ecosystems.
