Our client are a leading food manufacturing company in East Lothian, known for producing high-quality, innovative products. Our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and customer satisfaction drives everything we do. We are now looking for an experienced and dynamic Operations Manager to join their team and lead their production operations to continued success.

Role Overview:

As an Operations Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of their food manufacturing facility, ensuring production runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely. You will be responsible for managing a team, optimizing production processes, maintaining high standards of quality and safety, and driving continuous improvement. This is a key leadership role that requires both technical expertise and strong people management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership: Manage and lead the daily operations of the production facility, ensuring products are manufactured efficiently, safely, and meet quality standards.
  • Team Management: Lead, motivate, and develop a team of production supervisors and staff. Foster a positive working environment and promote continuous learning and development.
  • Process Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement and implement lean manufacturing practices to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and environmental guidelines. Promote a culture of safety across the workforce.
  • Quality Control: Work closely with the quality assurance team to maintain high product quality standards, troubleshoot quality issues, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Inventory and Supply Chain Management: Oversee inventory levels and coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of raw materials and supplies. Optimise stock control processes.
  • Budget and Cost Management: Monitor and control operational costs, ensuring that production remains within budget while maintaining high standards of output and quality.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Track production performance and provide regular reports to senior management. Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and improve operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments such as maintenance, engineering, HR, and logistics to ensure smooth operations and address any production-related issues promptly.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in an operations management role within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing teams in a fast-paced, production-focused setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of food manufacturing processes, health and safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
  • A strong understanding of inventory and supply chain management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
  • Relevant qualifications in operations management, food science, or a related field are desirable.
