Job summary

[Not disclosed] is seeking an experienced Operations Director to lead a multi-site care portfolio across Surrey and the South East. You will work closely with the CEO, COO and Board to drive safe, high-quality care while delivering growth and efficiency.

The role requires strong CQC knowledge, commercial oversight, and the ability to manage senior operational teams across diverse services, including Care at Home and Complex Care.

Qualifications

  • Senior operational experience in elderly care or nursing home settings.
  • Experience as Regional Director or Operations Director or equivalent.
  • Proven track record leading multi-site care services.
  • Strong knowledge of CQC requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Commercial exposure including budgets, revenue and EBITDA.
  • Understanding of occupancy, staffing, and agency expenditure.
  • Experience working with CQC, Local Authorities, ICBs and commissioners.
  • Experience with service mobilisation, new developments or acquisitions is a plus.
  • Leadership and people management with capability to coach senior managers.
  • Excellent board-level communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Willingness to regularly commute across Surrey and the South East.

Job description

A leading family-run care provider is seeking an experienced Operations Director to join its senior leadership team and take responsibility for the operational performance of a diverse portfolio of services across Surrey and the wider South East.

The organisation provides nursing, residential, dementia, and specialist rehabilitation services and is continuing to invest in the development and growth of its portfolio. This is a senior position with responsibility for providing strong operational leadership across multiple services, while working closely with the CEO, and Board.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining high standards of care and governance while also driving commercial performance, operational efficiency and future growth.

There is also scope for the role to develop into a broader group-level leadership position as part of the organisation's succession planning.

Key Responsibilities of the Operations Director
  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across a multi-site care portfolio.
  • Lead and develop a senior operational team, promoting accountability and high performance.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of safe, effective and person-centred care.
  • Oversee CQC compliance, quality governance, auditing and continuous improvement.
  • Manage operational budgets and take ownership of revenue, EBITDA and wider commercial performance.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with CQC, Local Authorities, ICBs, commissioners and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the mobilisation, integration and development of new services.
  • Provide operational oversight of Care at Home and Complex Care services.
  • Drive improvements in revenue and EBITDA across specialist rehabilitation services.
  • Monitor performance across new and developing services and implement improvement plans where required.
  • Work alongside the CEO, COO and Board to support the organisation's wider strategy and continued growth.
  • Embed a positive culture focused on engagement, accountability and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Significant senior operational experience within an elderly care or nursing home environment.
  • Previous experience at Regional Director, Operations Director or equivalent level.
  • Experience managing multiple care services and leading senior operational teams.
  • Strong knowledge of CQC requirements, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven commercial experience, including responsibility for budgets, revenue and EBITDA.
  • Good understanding of occupancy, staffing levels, agency expenditure and operational performance.
  • Experience working with CQC, Local Authorities, ICBs, commissioners and other external stakeholders.
  • Experience of service mobilisation, new developments, acquisitions or operational transformation would be beneficial.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to support and challenge senior managers effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence operating at Board and senior stakeholder level.
  • Commercially focused with the ability to make effective decisions within a growing and evolving organisation.
  • Available to regularly commute across the organisation's services throughout Surrey and the wider South East.
