Young Tower Hamlets Operational Support Officer
Grade: G
1.Context
This is an exciting time to join Tower Hamlets Youth Service. A key priority within the Tower Hamlets Council Strategic Plan 2022-2026 is to transform and improve services for young people in the borough.We are ambitious about ensuring that all young people in the borough have access to a diverse range of youth work opportunities and support through the delivery of a high-quality youth service, this includes:
- Universal ‘safe spaces’ in every single ward throughout the borough where young people can stay safe, participate in positive activities and educational opportunities as well as access additional support from youth workers. This will be an increase from five commissioned universal services to at least one in every ward therefore providing accessible 'safe spaces’ for all young people.
- Targeted whole family support for vulnerable young people and their families.
- Integrated detached youth work team providing a preventative and responsive approach to harm outside the home.
- Commissioning of specialist youth provision for specific groups of young people.
2. The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit an Operational Support Officer into the Young Tower Hamlets Service.
The key tasks associated with this role are primarily administrative, supporting the Head of Service, Group Managers and others with all aspects of business support activity. This includes:
- Providing a professional and person-centred frontline service in response to face-to-face, telephone, email and online enquiries received into the service.
- Provide professional administrative support as and when required across a diverse range of contexts to support the requirements of the service at practice, operational and strategic levels.
- Be responsible for providing a range of routine and responsive facilities management support as part of the Young Tower Hamlets offer to achieve compliance with expected standards and requirements.
- Organise and administer meetings as required including forward planning, checking availability, booking venues, issuing invitations, collating and distributing papers, taking notes, distributing minutes, and monitoring follow up actions as necessary.
- Input, extract and monitor data from relevant IT systems on a routine and ad hoc basis as well as producing reports, presenting information in effective ways.
- Assist with the coordination of training, including tasks related to liaison, procurement, finance, invitations, venue and evaluation.
3.Role Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of using a range of IT systems, the principles of facilities management and the legislation governing health and safety.
- GCSEs at grades A* - D in English and Maths or certified equivalent.
- Excellent organisational skills and able to achieve tasks within identified timescales to a consistently good standard.
- Experience of providing high quality administrative support within a busy environment.
- Maintaining high levels of confidentiality and sensitivity in all areas of work.

Whitechapel is an interchange station which serves Hammersmith & City, District, Overground, with quick access to central line DLR and Jubilee lines. We also have the Crossrail Elizabeth line with links to Canary Wharf, Shenfield/Abbey Wood/Heathrow and Stratford, which is the best-connected hub in London.
