We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic and reliable Midday Supervisor to join our dedicated team at Woodstock Primary Academy. This is a rewarding opportunity to support our children during the lunchtime period, helping to ensure their safety, well-being and enjoyment while promoting positive behaviour, independence, creativity and social interaction.
We are proud to be an OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Platinum School, and play is at the heart of our approach to lunchtime. Our Midday Supervisors play an important role in supporting children to make the most of their playtime, encouraging creativity, cooperation, independence and positive relationships.
The role involves working both indoors and outdoors throughout the year and in a range of weather conditions. You will need to be proactive, observant and confident in supporting children's play, while maintaining appropriate boundaries and monitoring behaviour to ensure that all children are safe, included and able to enjoy their lunchtime.
As a Midday Supervisor, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, happy and inclusive environment where children can eat, play and socialise confidently.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
- Has experience of working with children and can build positive, respectful relationships with them
- Is patient, calm, approachable and able to remain positive in busy situations
- Can act as a positive role model for all pupils
- Has excellent communication skills and can communicate effectively with children, colleagues and other adults
- Is proactive in supporting children's play, encouraging participation, creativity, cooperation and positive social interaction
- Is confident in monitoring and managing behaviour appropriately, using positive and consistent approaches
- Is observant and able to identify when children may need additional support, encouragement or intervention
- Is enthusiastic about outdoor play and is happy to work both inside and outside throughout the year, including in different weather conditions
- Is able to work effectively as part of a team as well as use their own initiative
- Has an awareness of health and safety requirements
- Understands the importance of confidentiality in a school environment
- Is willing to attend training and take part in further development opportunities
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising children during the lunch period in the dining hall, playground, classrooms and other designated play areas
- Supporting the school's OPAL approach to play, helping to create a stimulating, inclusive and enjoyable lunchtime experience for all children
- Being proactive in supporting and extending children's play rather than simply observing, encouraging children to participate, explore, create and develop positive relationships
- Working indoors and outdoors throughout the year, adapting supervision and support to different environments and weather conditions
- Monitoring children's behaviour and interactions, promoting positive behaviour and intervening calmly and appropriately when necessary
- Encouraging purposeful play, cooperation, independence, positive relationships and social interaction
- Supporting children to resolve minor disagreements and develop appropriate strategies for managing social situations
- Supervising playground games, activities and free-play opportunities, while encouraging children to make positive choices
- Supporting children with handwashing and preparing for lunch where required
- Ensuring children tidy and clear away after meals and play activities appropriately
- Providing basic first aid and referring more serious incidents to a Designated First Aider
- Communicating relevant information about children's behaviour, welfare, accidents or incidents to appropriate members of staff
- Ensuring the security, safety and well-being of all pupils at all times
- Supporting an inclusive environment where every child feels valued, safe and able to participate in lunchtime activities
