Job summary

Academics is recruiting for an Individual Support Assistant at a mainstream primary school in Cheltenham, offering one-to-one support for a pupil with additional needs. You will work with the class teacher and school team to adapt activities to the pupil’s needs and support communication and social development.

The role requires a patient, empathetic, and adaptable individual with a willingness to learn. DBS enhanced or willingness to apply is required; experience in education or childcare is

Qualifications

• Experience in education, childcare, care or support work would be beneficial.
• A patient, positive attitude and willingness to learn are important.
• Knowledge of communication methods such as BSL, Makaton or other augmentative and alternative communication approaches is useful but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to help a pupil engage with classroom learning and daily activities.
• Adapting tasks and learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
• Supporting communication, interaction and social development.
• Following the pupil’s EHCP and guidance from the school team.
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive relationships with peers.
• Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to maintain consistent support.
