Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly look for ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a great understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  • Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Open/close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring decisions benefit customers, colleagues, and safety
  • Be the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for daily operational queries
  • Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere
  • Ensure the store is always clean, tidy, and well-presented
  • Prioritize replenishment of products important to customers
  • Ensure point of sale and shelf edge labels reflect standards
  • Take immediate action for overcharges and prevent reoccurrence
  • Manage queues proactively to enhance customer experience
  • Coordinate colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns
  • Be knowledgeable about the store, coordinating improvements
  • Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same
  • Communicate effectively with the team to keep them informed
  • Seek ways to simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager
  • Always prioritize the customer and tailor service to their needs
  • Resolve customer queries promptly and leave them satisfied
  • Recognize and celebrate colleagues providing excellent service
  • Identify and remove obstacles to great service
  • Resolve colleague queries or escalate as needed
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, react to absences by finding cover
  • Recognized Keyholder duties, including attending alarm call outs
  • Monitor and act on internal communications, ensuring timely responses
  • Coordinate colleagues to meet customer and store needs, report issues to the Store Manager
  • Balance time across service and replenishment areas
  • Support the Store Manager in managing store absence, conduct return-to-work interviews, and report absence triggers
  • Build relationships with Area Manager & People Partner, escalate issues, seek coaching opportunities
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, duties include managing daily operations of the post office, requiring passing a background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
