Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

  • Coordinating the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety
  • Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries
  • Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events
  • Ensuring the store is clean, tidy, and well presented
  • Prioritising the replenishment of key products
  • Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels are accurate
  • Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrence
  • Managing queues proactively to enhance customer experience
  • Coordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks appropriately
  • Being knowledgeable about store operations and implementing improvements
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Communicating effectively with the team
  • Suggesting operational improvements to the Store Manager
  • Always putting the customer first and resolving queries with a positive attitude
  • Adjusting service to meet individual customer needs
  • Recognising colleagues who deliver great service
  • Removing obstacles to excellent service
  • Resolving colleague queries or escalating as needed
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing levels and managing shift cover
  • Being a Keyholder and attending alarm call outs for safety
  • Monitoring internal communications and ensuring messages are acted upon
  • Balancing service and replenishment tasks
  • Supporting absence management and conducting return-to-work interviews
  • Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues promptly
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, duties include managing day-to-day operations of the post office, including passing background checks for criminal and financial history. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
