Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  1. Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community.
  2. Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety.
  3. Be the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries.
  4. Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events, creating an inclusive atmosphere.
  5. Ensure the store is clean, tidy, and well presented.
  6. Prioritize replenishment of products important to customers.
  7. Ensure point of sale and shelf edge labels are accurate and reflect quality standards.
  8. Take immediate action for overcharges and prevent reoccurrences.
  9. Proactively manage queues to deliver a great shopping experience.
  10. Coordinate colleagues to deliver daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns.
  11. Be knowledgeable about your store and coordinate efforts to implement improvements.
  12. Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same.
  13. Deliver effective communication to the team and keep them informed.
  14. Seek ways to simplify operations and share ideas with your Store Manager.
  15. Always prioritize the customer and tailor service to meet their needs.
  16. Be available to resolve customer queries with a positive attitude.
  17. Adjust service delivery to meet individual customer needs.
  18. Recognize and celebrate colleagues providing excellent service.
  19. Identify and help remove obstacles to delivering great service.
  20. Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalate as needed.
  21. Ensure appropriate staffing, react to short-term absences, and find shift cover.
  22. Act as a Keyholder, attending alarm call-outs to ensure store safety and security.
  23. Monitor and act on internal communications, keeping colleagues informed.
  24. Coordinate efforts to meet customer and operational needs, reporting issues to the Store Manager.
  25. Balance your time across service and replenishment areas.
  26. Support the Store Manager in managing staff absence and conducting return-to-work interviews.
  27. Build relationships with your Area Manager & People Partner, seeking advice and coaching opportunities.
  28. If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties include managing the post office operations, which require passing a background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
