What is in it for you

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in implementing practical improvements by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  1. Coordinating the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  2. Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety
  3. Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day-to-day operational queries
  4. Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to foster an inclusive atmosphere
  5. Ensuring the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented
  6. Prioritising the replenishment of products important to our customers
  7. Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels reflect the correct pricing and presentation standards
  8. Taking immediate action on overcharges and preventing reoccurrences
  9. Managing queues proactively to deliver a great shopping experience
  10. Co-ordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and managing breaks effectively
  11. Being knowledgeable about store operations and leading practical improvements
  12. Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  13. Communicating effectively with the team and keeping them informed
  14. Seeking ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager
  15. Always putting the customer first and tailoring service to meet their needs
  16. Resolving customer queries promptly and with a positive attitude
  17. Recognising and celebrating colleagues who provide excellent service
  18. Identifying and removing obstacles to delivering great service
  19. Resolving colleagues’ queries or escalating to the Store Manager as needed
  20. Ensuring appropriate staffing, reacting to short-term absences by finding cover
  21. Being a recognized Keyholder, attending alarm call-outs to ensure store safety
  22. Monitoring and acting on internal communications, keeping colleagues informed
  23. Balancing time between service and replenishment areas
  24. Supporting the Store Manager in managing colleague absence and conducting return-to-work interviews
  25. Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues, seeking support, and coaching opportunities
  26. If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include daily operations of the post office, which requires passing a financial and criminal background check. Failure to pass these checks will result in withdrawal of the job offer.

Part of Tesco since 2003, we operate independently from our Head Office in Brownhills, Walsall, servicing stores from three distribution centres in Brownhills, Nursling, and Wakefield.
