Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in implementing practical improvements by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinating the team to provide excellent shopping experiences.
  2. Opening and closing the store, ensuring all decisions prioritize customers, colleagues, and safety.
  3. Being the go-to person for operational queries in the absence of the Store Manager.
  4. Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events.
  5. Maintaining store cleanliness, tidiness, and presentation.
  6. Prioritizing product replenishment based on customer needs.
  7. Ensuring POS and shelf labels are accurate.
  8. Handling overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrences.
  9. Managing queues proactively to enhance customer experience.
  10. Scheduling colleagues’ breaks and ensuring adequate staffing.
  11. Following health and safety routines and promoting them among colleagues.
  12. Communicating effectively with the team.
  13. Identifying operational improvements and sharing ideas with the Store Manager.
  14. Always putting the customer first and adapting service to meet their needs.
  15. Resolving customer queries promptly and courteously.
  16. Recognizing colleagues for great service.
  17. Removing obstacles to excellent service.
  18. Handling colleague queries or escalating as necessary.
  19. Ensuring proper staffing, including covering short-term absences.
  20. Being a keyholder and attending alarm call-outs when needed.
  21. Monitoring internal communications and ensuring messages are acted upon.
  22. Supporting the management of store absence and conducting return-to-work interviews.
  23. Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners for support and coaching.

If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include managing its operations, which requires passing a background check.
